Gum Therapy Explained:

We sometimes forget teeth are connected to the rest of the body.  Just because your teeth don’t hurt today does not mean the teeth are not affected by dental disease.  Gum disease is an example of this because the onset of the disease often does not hurt.  Gum disease is caused by bacteria being along and below the gumline.  For most people, if a body part was bleeding, they would visit the doctor immediately.  However, how many times have you noticed your gums were bleeding but you didn’t make an appointment with the dentist?   Gum disease destroys the bone supporting your teeth by melting it away.  The earliest warning sign of gum disease are reddened gums and bleeding while brushing.  The bone that you lose will not grow back and procedures to replace bone are not available in every case.  That is the main reason gum disease is a condition we never ignore in our practice.  Gum therapy is just like any other kind of medical therapy.  Healing will include maintenance and regular checkups in order to achieve healing.  Healthy bone and gums is the foundation for a healthy mouth.  Your teeth are the house built on top of that foundation.  Don’t neglect your foundation.
